Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for controlling access to the site, facility and restricted areas within the facility. He/she is responsible for guarding against theft and vandalism, maintenance of order or any other protective services and enforcing security regulations as per the ACMPR. This position requires Health Canada security clearance.
Job Description
 Understand and apply security regulations as per the ACMPR
 Administer security programs and policies, including record keeping
 Adhere to all policies and follow established procedures
 Effectively follow and provide instructions
 Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates
 Use audio and video surveillance equipment using computerized systems
 Respond to, and investigate the cause of, all alarms (e.g. electronic detection devices and access devices) and disturbances
 Maintain the safe keeping of all recordings; may be used as evidence against alleged criminals in police investigations
 Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property
 Obtain information from individuals as required for investigative purposes
 Identify fraud and take the appropriate action required by law and company policy
 Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons
 Monitor all incoming and outgoing employees as well as contractors, vendors and couriers or other visitors
 Review and maintain daily customer and/or visitor entry log reports
 Write reports, complete logs and required paperwork regarding daily activities including any irregularities or incidents such as equipment or property damage, theft, the presence of unauthorized persons

 Create and provide various quarterly reports for senior management
 Resolve and report on all security and surveillance issues
 Attend to detail in all areas involved in job duties
 Participate in training seminars in all areas of operations
 Participate in monthly Security meetings
 Other duties as assigned
Requirements
 Must possess a valid driver’s licence
 Must have first-aid and CPR certification
 Highly effective teamwork skills
 Strong conflict management skills
 Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization and visitors
 Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
 Able to work well under pressure and provide good customer care
 Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
 Computer literate including Microsoft Office
 Bilingualism is an asset
Qualifications
 A College Diploma in a relevant field (e.g. law and security) or acceptable combination of experience and equivalent skills required
 Experience as a police officer would be an asset
 Previous experience as a Security Officer or in a related field would be an asset
Work Conditions
 Must be able to Sit and Stand and/or Walk for prolonged periods of time
 Light strength demands; 5-10 kg (11-22 lbs)
 Other body positioning (e.g. bending, stooping etc.) in addition to Standing and/or Walking
 Overtime as required
 Potential for dangerous circumstances
